Nigel Harris
Nigel was a
key member of the team which designed and developed PAWS, Saladin's innovative oil market
analysis system, which was launched in 1987 and is still used extensively throughout the industry today.
At Saladin, he spent two years working closely with early customers in the USA to
expand the analytical capabilities of PAWS, then returned to the UK to run all software development
and customer support activities. Nigel then moved into a product management role, taking
responsibility for all aspects of software product direction, design and implementation.
He created a new risk analysis module for PAWS and launched a new trading system which integrated
real-time and historical information analysis for the first time in the energy market.
Nigel worked as an independent consultant for three years prior to forming Kingston
Energy Consulting with Mary Jackson in 2002. Assignments included a survey of
requirements for market data and information systems in European electricity
trading, the technical specification of an internet-based information service and the design
of systems for the management and analysis of telecommunications data. Nigel also
held a short-term role as Director of Product Strategy at FAME Information Services
in New York in 2000/01, planning new data
management products to meet the requirements of both energy and financial
markets.
Nigel has written articles for industry publications and spoken at conferences on both
technology and energy market issues.
He has a first class masters degree and a PhD from Cambridge University.
Mary Jackson
Mary began her career at BP's information management group, where she
led projects to review existing information systems, research user requirements
and design and implement new systems. Subsequently she worked as an analyst in
the supply and trading department, where she was responsible for negotiating
inter-company exchanges, supply planning and market analysis of the crude,
products and derivatives markets.
Mary then joined Saladin as an energy consultant, providing advice and training on
energy market analysis, trading and risk management to companies throughout
the world. In several senior roles at Saladin, she managed the energy
consulting team, ran the energy market information service (which provided a
"one-stop shop" service for the supply of historical energy market data)
and directed strategy for new software and information product development,
including the development of a new internet based trading system. This involved
the research, specification and marketing of new products, as well as carrying out
strategic information reviews for major energy companies.
After leaving Saladin, Mary worked as an independent energy market consultant until
she formed Kingston Energy Consulting with Nigel Harris in 2002. She has lectured
regularly for The Oxford Princeton Programme on energy markets, trading and risk
management and is also a regular speaker and panel member at public conferences.
She has written articles for industry publications including Hart Energy Markets,
Energy and Power Risk Management, Global Energy Business and Petroleum Review.
Mary has a B.A. honours degree from Bristol University and a masters
degree from London University in information and archive studies.
