Customised Workshops and Seminars
We can devise tailored programmes to meet your specific requirements for training and knowledge transfer in subject areas ranging from energy industry fundamentals through physical markets and trading to risk management and derivatives.
The following are some examples of recent projects that we have undertaken in association with The Oxford Princeton Programme.
Oil Trading Workshop
A major integrated oil company wanted to raise the level of awareness and knowledge about trading throughout its organisation, and particularly among staff who work within the supply and trading area, in financial and operational roles. With senior managers at the client company, we devised a three-day programme with a high level of interactive content (including competitive trading simulations) covering crude oil, refined products and "paper" trading. We ran the workshop at the client's offices in the USA, Europe and Asia, significantly raising the knowledge of over 100 people and giving them new insight into the world of oil trading.
Gas and Power Trading Foundation Course
A UK-based energy company identified the need to give large numbers of staff a basic grounding in gas and power. The target audience included experienced staff making the transition from oil to gas or power, new joiners on a fast track towards gas and power trading roles, and staff in support roles. We put together a one-day foundation course on gas and power fundamentals and markets, which we now present to a new set of 15-20 delegates every few weeks.

Energy Price Risk Management Workshop
An industrial end-user of gas and power was bringing together its energy buyers from around Europe to meet with their internal financial trading and risk management team discuss the scope for energy price risk management in the newly liberalised and increasingly volatile European gas and power markets. They asked us to put together a series of lecture sessions to bring everyone up to speed on European energy market liberalisation and on risk management and derivative instruments in energy markets. They also asked us to design and facilitate interactive workshop sessions focusing on their own specific exposures. The resulting two-day workshop equipped them with new knowledge and insight that would clearly benefit them in negotiations with energy suppliers.
Natural Gas Liquids Meeting
An integrated oil and gas company was planning a meeting of upstream and downstream managers to discuss the company's position in the natural gas liquids market in Europe, in order to plan a more co-ordinated approach to this aspect of their business. To bring everyone to a common basic level of understanding, and to get an external perspective on the NGL markets, they asked us to develop a one-day workshop on NGL and LPG, covering everything from production and processing, chemical and physical properties and end-user applications to traded markets, shipping, international supply/demand balances and wholesale pricing. This workshop formed the first day of a three-day meeting and was extremely valuable in giving a disparate group a shared understanding and vocabulary to underpin their subsequent discussions.
Energy Options Valuation Workshop
We developed this two-day workshop on OTC and exchange-traded energy options and their valuation in collaboration with the structured trading team of an integrated energy company. Short lectures on options pricing theory were interspersed with hands-on options pricing exercises designed to give delegates an appreciation of how different options and strategies respond to changes in underlying prices, volatility and other factors.
